NZ vs SL Live Score: Here’s what Kusal Mendis said at the toss

I was looking to bowl. But unfortunately we are batting first. Very important game today. If we do the basics well, we should do well. NZ is a calm team. We played here against and played well. One change for us. Rajitha is not playing but Chamika is playing.

NZ vs SL Live Score: Here’s what Kane Williamson said at the toss

We will have a bowl first. Little bit of weather around. Little bit of unknowns. By and large we have won a few and lost a few. Been there and there abouts. Some close ones which could have gone either ways. Here we are here today, would want to address the issue in front of us. Lockie comes in for Ish Sodhi. Adjust to what is in front of us. Make use of the ball first up.

Nice to have a couple of days off. We played some golf. We played our last game here. We have some good memories. We played well against Pakistan. We are trying to stay consistent as possible. Couple of results didn’t go our way. It is about being consistent. trying to do better in the coming games. As a team, we don’t have much differences in the batting and the bowling. We try and back each other as much. It is not our batters versus the bowlers.

NZ vs SL Live Score: Kiwi bowlers eye redemption

New Zealand’s batting has not really collapsed except against South Africa but their bowling lacked sting when it was needed. The Kiwis made 400 against Pakistan at this venue but their bowlers continued the rudderless ways, leaking runs in plenty and left clueless against Fakhar Zaman’s onslaught. The Kiwis bowlers failed in critical thinking when the going was getting tough for them, and it was quite surprising to see even experienced bowlers like Trent Boult and Tim Southee operating without a Plan B.

NZ vs SL Live Score: Qualification scenario for NZ

Pakistan (+0.036) and Afghanistan (-0.338), who also have eight points apiece, can also potentially reach 10 points with a win over England and South Africa in their respective final league match. In that context, the Kiwis (+0.398) have to win sufficiently big to take care of the Net Run Rate as well. So, it is not an all too bright scenario for New Zealand, but a victory will at least keep them in the race to the semifinals for the time being.
