West Bengal extends Measles-Rubella vaccination drive till February 21

Kolkata: The state health department extended the Measles-Rubella (MRV) vaccination drive to February 21 in four municipal corporations – Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Howrah Municipal Corporation, Asansol Municipal Corporation, and Siliguri Municipal Corporation – and areas under two districts, North and South 24 Parganas, where the coverage has remained poor. The drive was to end on February 11.

Health officials said in these areas vaccine coverage was poor. “MRV coverage was below 80 per cent in these areas which isn’t good enough,” said a health official.

“We want officials to identify children who’ve skipped the drive and offer them this dose,” said a health official. Sources said poor coverage have been mainly due to private hospitals unwilling to participate in the drive.
