Lucknow: UP deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday ordered an immediate inquiry into a case of alleged medical negligence which involves a child who was supposed to undergo a tongue operation but was instead subjected to circumcision at a private hospital in the Bareilly district.
According to a press statement by deputy CM Pathak, directed the chief medical officer (CMO) in Bareilly to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and submit a detailed report within 24 hours. The hospital will be sealed if the guilty party is found during the investigation and FIR will be filed against the doctor and staff involved.
It has been alleged that a child in Bareilly has been experiencing difficulty in speaking and stammering. After an examination, doctors advised an operation on the child’s tongue. The family took the child to a private hospital in the city.
The family alleges that the doctors admitted the child to the hospital but instead of operating on the tongue, the doctor performed circumcision on the child. The parents have demanded action against the doctor and claim that the hospital management is pressuring them for a compromise.
Further, Dy CM tweeted, “In response to the circumcision case at a private hospital in Bareilly, I have dispatched a health department team, accompanied by ACMO, to investigate. If the complaint is substantiated, an FIR will be filed against the responsible doctor and the hospital’s registration will be cancelled immediately. Based on the investigation report, the hospital will also be sealed”.
