National Doctors' Day: Political leaders salute doctors fraternity
Doctors have been at the forefront in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Nearly 1,550 doctors have lost their lives including 798 during the second wave solely due to COVID-19. Last year, more doctors had perished in the line of duty than soldiers. Lauding their efforts and role in saving our lives from so many probable life threats, the political leaders unanimously credited the doctors for spearheading the fight against COVID-19 and undeniably shielding the nation from the ongoing pandemic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to applaud the contribution of doctors for their continued contribution for generations in rescuing the planet from any health-related threat.

While attributing excerpts from his “Mann Ki Baat” Radio Programme in which he addressed the medical fraternity on Doctor’s Day in his tweet, Modi said, “On Doctors Day, my greetings to all doctors. India’s strides in the world of
medicine are commendable and have contributed to making our planet healthier. Here is what I said during #MannKiBaat a few days ago.”

Applauding the altruistic and heroic efforts of our doctors in serving humanity irrespective of any challenges, Home Minister, Amit Shah, tweeted, “Being a doctor is a pledge to serve mankind. On National Doctor’s Day, we salute the heroic efforts of our courageous doctors who left no stone unturned to serve humanity irrespective of the odds. Time and again, we have witnessed their selfless efforts towards society.”

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal also acknowledged their non-compensable contribution in serving humanity and saving lives, especially at the time of one pandemic and in his tweet said, “Our doctors are fighting one of the
toughest battles of this century. Their heroic stories of service and sacrifice will inspire several generations to come. On this Doctors Day, let’s celebrate their unparalleled contribution to our society.”

While WCD Minister, Smriti Irani asserting their role as saviours in our society, after and before the pandemic and expressing her gratitude towards their service said in her tweet, “You are our frontline of defence not only during a
global pandemic but through every ailment which afflicts us. My gratitude to my doctors who have kept me & my loved ones safe. And to all Doctors this #DoctorsDay, you give life, you give hope, we are grateful for your services.”

Leader of Indian National Congress (INC), Rahul Gandhi commended doctors in his tweet in both Hindi and English in which he said,” #ThankYouDoctors for every single moment you spend in saving lives. We are indebted.”

National Doctor’s Day, observed every year on July 1 in India, is celebrated to applaud the Doctors’ significant contribution towards saving lives and serving humanity even at the stake of their health and life. The day is commemorated to remember prominent physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy for his selfless service towards his patients during his profession as a doctor which continues to inspire the medical fraternity to take into his shoes and continue to serve patients selflessly.
