Nagpur man pregnant for more than three decades with twin in a rare medical condition – ET HealthWorld

Nagpur: In a rare medical condition, a 60-year-old Nagpur man has been diagnosed with “fetus in fetu” and has been found to be living with a bulging stomach for more than 30 years.

According to the National Library of Medicine, Fetus-in-fetu (FIF) is a rare entity in which one malformed vertebrate fetus is enclosed within the body of its twin. This is an extremely rare condition, and has been found in fewer than 100 cases.

The man who goes by Bhagat got the nickname “pregnant man” due to his huge stomach. The Daily Star reported that he’d been ignoring the condition and had to tolerate the teasing from peers about his belly.

However, in 1999 the bulge pressed against his diaphragm and he had to be hospitalised as it was difficult for him to breathe. Dr Ajay Mehta thought it could have been a tumor at first.

The doctor had to cut open Bhagat’s stomach believing it to bring a cancer however they discovered a human being.

History Defined reported, “He just put his hand inside, and he said there are a lot of bones inside,” said a doctor,

“First, one limb came out, then another limb came out. Then some parts of the genitalia, some parts of the hair, some limbs, jaws, limbs, and hair”, they added.

“We were horrified. We were confused and amazed… To my surprise and horror, I could shake hands with someone inside. It was a bit shocking for me,” added the doctor.
